If there is anything that I love in life besides my family it is .....

Chess.
I’m close to 60 now. Became in love with chess as a child and I must say: Chess is one of the top coziest thing I do in life honestly. Just love it.

I know I will never be better than a medium club player. But it’s just so cozy to play, study, read different chess books, so on and so forth. I just never get tired of it. Wouldn’t be surprized if even God love that game and I hope I can have a game with him after this life, in his garden, on a green grass meadow, on a chessboard made of the finest wood. That would be something.
Cheers
God made humans in his image. Hence, the 64 codons in their DNA are divine masterpieces. Playing chess feels like digging into the deeper meaning of life and realizing that there is a divine force responsible for the existence of everything in this universe.
I love my family and I love chess; but which do I love more? Hmmm... My wife came to me the other evening and asked me, rhetorically, if she and Kasparov were both drowning, and I could only save one, which would I choose?

I said, "Don't take this the wrong way, but I've never seen you play pawn to king's four"
(I have been watching old episodes of I Claudius and The Sopranos online recently, so that might have affected my answer)

Play chess with God in his garden ???? What garden?
İ admire ur passion for chess,i think chess is such a great invention
Whereas I would've hit him over the head with a chessboard (just to make sure).
Playing chess with God must be like trying to knock Godzilla out with a punch
Steinitz played chess against God and won according to him. He legitimately believed that. Steinitz would be at most 2100 FIDE I imagine if he were magically resurrected tomorrow and plopped into a chair at a tournament. Maybe God needs to work on his endgames?

I admire your enthusiasm, and I’m kind of envious in a way. I like chess, but Caissa is a very cruel mistress. She serves me endless slices of humble pie. I like social aspect of it too. It’s something that people who only play online are missing out on in my opinion.

It has been a while since I read about this, but, last I heard, for this often-repeated story, nobody has found a verifiable source from around the time when Steinitz was alive.
