Ratings are currently summarised as follows (when you hover over a players name)
blitz
bullet
classical
correspondence
(the above all for classical chess)
then the ratings for the variants follow:
horde
crazyhouse
960
koth
etc
Maybe an idea to report the ratings as a matrix (<time control> / <variant>) ?
bullet blitz classical correspondence
classical chess 1234 2345 1234 -
960 - 1234 2345 -
crazyhouse
horde etc
koth
...

ok, that white space formatting of my matrix disappeared after posting :)
After giving it some thought, it would be quite a large change, actually.
the <variant> / <time control> dimensions creep up everywhere:
o Community / Players layout
o Create a game
o Ratings
o Lichess TV
o Tournaments
o Tournament winners
etc etc
For Tournaments, there is an additional dimension (daily / weekly / monthly)
So maybe too fundamental a change, perhaps :)
I think each combination of game request parameters should have its own rating in order to model ratings as accurately as possible. As #4 points out, that's more complex than it sounds.
This suggestion is very good and really should be considered by lichess developer.
Having general rating for all time controls lead to inaccurate ratings.
For example, I enjoy to play all time controls. While I can play strong in slow games and maintain a good rating, in bullet I loose more often due to a poor connection.
So my rating drops down 300-400 points after a 30 sec. game session. And then when I decide to play slow again, I become very underrated, just like a sandbagger, that is of course very frustrating for opponents.
Of course one could open 4 accounts to have 4 different ratings for bullet blitz slow correspondence, but it is against the rules.
Now you see, that having 4 ratings in each variant (just like with regular chess) is really important.
You can make it as a table (matrix). For Trophies competition you just calculate 1 average rating.
And no need to change anything else like
o Lichess TV
o Tournaments
o Tournament winners
etc etc
