In several games my opponents just let's the time run out if they are in a loosing position.
I suggest that instead of threatening them with a temporary ban, deduct double amount of points. That would make this behaviour stop.

This would cause serious damage to the rating distribution. People who do this often would constantly be placed against opponents weaker than they are, with the same rating, and this would lower the rating of non-offending players, i.e. it ripples out through the player base.
The kind of person that lets the time run out in a losing position will find a way to punish themselves. I just feel sorry for them...I mean it's really kind of pathetic behavior. All you can do is block them.

the thing is, they're usually the one having a snack already
It starts with warnings, followed by temporary playbans - duration of which increase with each new infraction - and ends up with permanent account closure.
Hahaha I've been waiting for this to happen to me recently. My plan is to give my opponent lots of extra time. Like 30 minutes. See if they REALLY want to wait :)

you could give them 2hrs and just check the tab every now and then ;)
