Winter Marathon

I played in that very first marathon year ago for 20 hours.
I played about 15 hours in a row. Then rest for 2-3 hours, took a shower and strong tea. Then finished tournament.
I don't see what's so bad about 48h. If you don't want to play all of it you don't have to. Just, if you really want you can.
On a side note, 48h decreases the "unfairness" since if spread out over two days the mentioned advantages are diminishing.
And for it being dangerous, I don't think that it's seriously dangerous but of course everyone is responsible for himself. But that's also true in every other sport, it's always dangerous and you have to listen to your body when it says "stop".

But I'm not worried that that's an issue, there's no prize money (which is good!) so no real incentive to do something really dangerous. (as opposed to pros in sports like boxing)
I am strongly against 48 hrs, I played 16 hrs out of 24 in the summer and got in top 100, but the time I put in took a lot of time away from other work so that cost me quite a bit. and I know people like to play full 24 hrs. making it 48 hrs will not only affect the health but also the other work of people who want and r playing to win. 24 hrs is ideal, however the time control might change, for eg I prefer 3 min to 5 min.
I don't think you have to play the full time to get top 100. Few people will play the full 48h and even if they do, if you play sleep, then play again you're favored because you are fresher (so can catch up quite well).
Not having the time because of work is the reason why I want it in Winter, if you do it e.g. on 28-29 Dec, noone works there.
Finally, what's so bad trying it one time? If it turns out terribly we can just never do it again, and even if it's great I am still advocating for only doing it ONCE a year, leaving all other marathons untouched.
I think what we can do is, we might have a special Christmas marathon for 48 hrs, that shall be fun and then after that maybe a new yr marathon for 24 hrs. Yes its 2 special tournaments in 1 week but it shall be a lot of fun and many people will be able to participate!
However something to note is that the lichess server might not be able to take the load of 48 hr marathon but who knows, lichess has done amazing and unthinkable stuff before!
I've already voiced my contentions with the 48 hour marathon, but here is something else to consider; the points that the 48 hour marathon advocates are using are: Ability to sleep, Less "unfairness" due to timezones, and better experience for people who play the marathon casually. If this is convincing enough to suggest a longer time, then what about a 60 hour marathon? A 60 hour marathon has all the mentioned benefits of a 48 hour marathon, but even better! You're starting to see a little why it sounds ridiculous right. The marathon is long enough as is, and lengthening it changes the nature of what it is trying to accomplish. Hopefully you can understand what I am trying to say, and with that, a good day! (Rhyme op).
#17 That's not the advantages of a 48h marathon. The advantage is that you can play the tournament for 48 hours, making it even greater and something that never has been there before (at least I have never seen 48h tournaments anywhere).
Those mentioned points just show why this won't hurt the players who don't want to play the full 48h.
And again, what's so bad trying something ONE time? If it's bad then I will admit it was a bad idea, it won't be ever done again, everyone's still fine...
it wouldn't diminish any timezone advantages since again those who played closer to the later hours of the second day would have an advantage.
in any case it seems that this 48 hour idea doesn't have a lot of support and i wouldn't really support it either
48 hours might be a decentive for a normal player not to try as hard as they might think everyone is going to go full hardcore mode and play both days. I think 1 day is manageable but 2 is out of the question.
